Podcast Episode 7 Recap: Anna Greenwald of On the Goga

Meet Anna Greenwald, founder and CEO of On the Goga, a wellness program designed for corporations and organizations.

Anna’s first introduction to wellness came as a yoga class prescribed by her doctor. An avid singer, Anna hurt her vocal cords and was looking for any way to heal, even if that meant an activity she wasn’t too excited about. Little did she know, what started as a doctor’s prescription for a vocal cord injury would soon turn to a daily practice, then to a full-time business.

Anna joined us on our podcast, What’s the Factor, to talk about her learnings from turning her passion into a full-time business. Here are a few take-aways from her episode.

Through Practice, You Can Do Anything

Despite her initial hesitations around yoga, Anna was amazed at what could be accomplished through just practicing. She learned that if you continue to show up and struggle over and over again, you can do anything. And more importantly, she learned how impactful practice was to both her mental and physical health.

While she learned to show up and keep going through yoga, it was becoming an entrepreneur where she really put this notion into practice.

Find Your Audience

Finding the right market sometimes takes time. While Anna’s journey with On the Goga started as a one-woman show working at bachelorette parties and other private events, she eventually saw a need for On the Goga to expand and serve a more corporate market.

When she worked with larger organizations, she found that there was a large impact to be made. Not only could individuals work on themselves at no cost, but businesses could re-define their culture and add a benefit that could make them more competitive.

Anna found a sweet spot for her business that bridged wellness and work. She believes that productivity begins with wellness, and if organizations prioritize the well-being of their employees, they will thrive.

Find Value In Research, And Use It

Find your value and base it on research. These days, numbers and analytics matter. Noting this, Anna based On the Goga’s program on the Gallup-Sharecare Well-Being Index. The Gallup-Sharecare Well-Being Index argues that when you’re thriving in four out of five areas including physical fitness, emotional well being, community support, financial security, and environmental health, you’re much more successful.

Anna found that she could take this study’s principles and apply them to her organizational programs, not only to show people that her program works but also to show them that corporate wellness can be so much more than a meditation session or a company-wide yoga class. You can apply these principles to everything you do and every corporate event you hold, including a cooking class or a financial planning lunch and learn.

Channel a Growth Mindset

Anna reminded us about the importance of channeling a growth mindset. A fixed mindset limits you—it tells you that you that there’s only so much you can do to achieve more intelligence and skills. On the other hand, a growth mindset enables you to try things you might not be good at it. It makes failure possible, and more importantly, it makes growth possible.

Anna channeled a growth mindset when she first stepped on her yoga mat. A complete novice to the practice, she found that if she kept showing up and attempting yoga, she could affect change both physically and mentally. Her revelation was that she “could fail forward,” and that revelation gave her courage to try new things such as launching a business. She says that it’s okay to fail because that’s still achieving, it’s just a different point in the process.

As much as people tend to avoid failure, it’s actually crucial to experience growth. If you’re an entrepreneur, failure is a key part of your journey that you must accept if you want to grow.

Value Courage, Not Success

Anna began On the Goga with the focus on practice. She chose to value courage, not success because you can practice courage, but you can’t really practice success. This mantra helped her make active decisions around her business and understand that even when something is executed perfectly, it still might not be successful—and that’s okay.

Be Willing To Try Something

According to Anna, the difference between people who do great things, and the people that don’t, is that they just do it. As an entrepreneur, you need to ask yourself: What are you practicing now that is driving you toward your goals? If you’re going to do something, you have to start.

Anna first started On the Goga because she wanted to connect with people that didn’t put themselves in the stereotypical “healthy lifestyle” category. She wanted to give these people and their organizations a platform that would demystify the healthy living stereotype and provide a safe place for people to experience the benefits of wellness.

Not only is Anna doing great things helping the organizations within her community thrive, she is inspiring so many others to practice courage and channel a growth mindset. We loved having Anna on What’s the Factor, and look forward to watching her business grow!
