Community is central to ScaleFactor’s core values. We’re strong believers that if you put your best self out there and take care of your community, exciting things will happen. That is one of the many reasons why we love volunteering for Meals on Wheels.
If you’re unfamiliar with the program, Meals on Wheels is a nationwide non-profit with the goal to support the health and independence of senior citizens. The organization focuses on a local impact, helping nearly 2.4 million seniors annually in communities across the country.
Every Friday, we have two ScaleFolks head out to volunteer, delivering meals to families in need. For 45 minutes, we have the opportunity to step away from our work supporting small businesses and work toward a better community.
This year marks two years of our volunteerism, meaning we have served over 500 meals to folks in our community. But that’s just what we have done. Last year alone, Meals on Wheels served over 750,000 meals to those in need in the central Texas area.
While the weekly time commitment is small, the impact on our community and our team is huge. For us, volunteering for Meals on Wheels is humbling and a small favor we can do to give back. For those we serve weekly, it can make the difference between living in a nursing facility and living in the comfort of their own home. Our visits can help folks feel a lot less isolated and not go hungry.
If you’re looking to give back, Meals on Wheels is a great way to do it. As an organization, we love the time it allows us to get to know each other outside of the office and give back to the community where we work.
Here’s a timelapse that shows what a weekly run is like for us:
Since ScaleFactor supports many local businesses here in Austin, we believe it is only natural to be stewards of our community and help out in any way we can! In addition to volunteering for Meals on Wheels, ScaleFactor also works with Big Brothers, Big Sisters and encourages employees to get the company involved in causes that they are passionate about.
This year, we sponsored a golf tournament giving back to families affected by cancer. Additionally, one of our employees hosted a dorm drive at the office with the goal to help those in need starting college.
Our volunteerism is built around our passions, and we are passionate about helping businesses and our community thrive. As we continue our weekly volunteerism, we encourage everyone to give back this holiday season and every season!
