Celebrating Women in Sales Month, I recently met with three insanely inspiring women sales leaders during the Enterprise Sales Forum event held at ScaleFactor.
With great conversation, and plenty of insightful answers, attendees were treated to a panel featuring three amazing women:
All three sales leaders shared incredible wisdom surrounding career growth and life challenges.
Here are my big takeaways:
Find mentors at every stage of your career
This is true for everyone, but more so for sales professionals, and even more so a woman sales pro. Mentors can come from inside and outside of the company, in or out of your department. They can be family, friends and even neighbors. Having others who “know the drill” is invaluable.
The best way to get mentorship: ASK!
It takes courage. It takes initiative. Be sincere. Outside of that, there’s not much to it. All you have to do is ask with a genuine desire to be a better professional, and you’ll find many willing to help.
Different than mentors, champions go out of their way to find opportunities and stretch your knowledge.
Switching industries mid-career is possible
One panelist went from running a farm to software sales. A tough switch, but she was successful thanks to hard work, determination and finding a mentor to help navigate the process.
Success takes work
If you think there’s a hack to replace hard work – there isn’t one. Work tirelessly. Study your craft.
Balancing home life and work
With a dedicated support system, many mothers have successful careers in sales and get to the “corner office”.
Two books to check out
The panel mentioned two books that I’ve read and enjoyed: Nice Girls Don’t Get the Corner Office and Crucial Conversations. I suggest reading both.
Stay tuned for a highlight video soon. If you’d like to stop by ScaleFactor, check out our open jobs. We’d love to meet new people looking to change their lives!
