Our Story

In 2013, ScaleFactor founder and CEO Kurt Rathmann was determined to find a solution for the accounting problems he was facing as a CFO. He was on a quest to automate the painful, time consuming accounting tasks he and his team were forced to complete manually. In 2014, Kurt started ScaleFactor at his living room table. The company grew from one to four employees before the year’s end.

Today, ScaleFactor’s intuitive software automates accounting, tax and finance tasks to save business owners time and money. ScaleFactor’s team of finance, software development, marketing and sales professionals share a common goal: to empower business owners to make the best strategic and financial decisions.

Meet The Team

CEO & Founder

Kurt is a born and raised entrepreneur. He brings a diverse background measuring and growing businesses and functions as the Chief Everything Officer. He has a keen focus for growing revenue, refining operations and developing people. He is a news junkie, technological optimist, and has inherited the travel bug with a passion for exploring the world with his awesome wife.

Director of People

As the first employee, Derek eats, breathes, and sleeps ScaleFactor. He is the Culture Warrior. He focuses on internal operations including cash flow, culture & HR, and facilities management; he is a true utility player and provides support wherever needed. When not at the office, the rest of Derek’s bandwidth is spent with his family, friends, & two dogs.

Account Manager

Kristen is involved in all aspects of the client’s financial operations and focuses on integrating with client day to day operations. When she isn’t crushing requests for clients, she spends her time at CrossFit or in the outdoors. Kristen has an affinity for animals, especially cats, and is proudly known for it at ScaleFactor.

Director of Solutions

Andrew leads the ScaleFactor Services team of experts, overseeing all aspects of service delivery and related internal functions. Applying his background in Public Accounting, Andrew develops solutions which balance the unique needs and focused resources of growing businesses to empower their success. When not on the grind, Andrew can be found at one of his favorite music venues, running around Town Lake, or finding the next place to travel.

Account Manager

Zach is responsible for delivering core support and CFO financial analysis. He is involved with taking new clients to a #stateofautomation. When he’s not crushing work and cold brew, Zach enjoys cooking and his Texas Longhorns. Zach can also be found spending time with his lovely wife, their infant son, and their “fur baby” German Shepherd.

Customer Success Manager

Adam is utilizing his financial consulting expertise to create a great customer experience from sales to service. He’s passionate about working with ScaleFactor Customers to curate a great experience when you work with ScaleFactor. When he’s not focused on ScaleFactor customer’s, Adam can be found on the golf course or enjoying Austin’s live music scene.

Account Manager

Jigar is responsible for delivering core accounting support, financial analysis, and CFO level solutions. He is a resident automation expert focused on the implementation process. When he is not busy coming up with clever hashtags like #stateofautomation, he enjoys watching films & TV shows from his vast media collection and spending quality time with his family and awesome wife.

Growth Manager

Mike is responsible for understanding client needs and matching them to the right ScaleFactor resources. When he’s not scribing engagement letters or taking credit for the delivery team’s work, he enjoys watching re-runs of the 2006 Rose Bowl, smoking competitive BBQ and welcoming the influx of new Austinites to his birthplace.

Financial Manager

Taylor is responsible for evaluating the monetary effects of potential business decisions for his clients. He assists businesses in aligning their strategic goals with their financial goals. Outside of the office, Taylor is most likely swimming at Barton Springs or buying unnecessary gear for the next camping trip with his family.

Account Manager

Robert is responsible for delivering core services, financial analysis, and Controller level solutions. He also manages client on-boarding and implementation projects. When he’s not in the office performing financial ninja wizardry, Robert can be found on the soccer field, exploring new coffee shops with his beautiful wife, or heading to the mountains to snowboard any chance he gets.

Director of Products

Brian is responsible for building client facing products to present complex data in a simple, intuitive way. He focuses on customer needs working towards scalable, automated solutions that change the way businesses and growth companies make decisions. When he’s not developing FinTech’s next big idea, he enjoys traveling the globe with his wife in a quest to visit 50 different countries.

Financial Analyst

Nan is responsible for assisting the FP&A team in core client financial reporting and modeling. He also helps manage and refine the ScaleFactor project management platform. Outside of the office, he enjoys playing badminton in order to feel less guilty for eating a lot of Chick-fil-A. When he gets the chance, he enjoys going to the mountains to ski with friends.

Tax Manager

Sergio is responsible for filing client tax returns, managing business compliance matters, performing tax research and developing the ScaleFactor tax department. When he’s not crunching tax returns, Sergio can be found jogging the trails, going to the lake, floating the river or having drinks with friends. He also loves to travel anytime he gets the chance.

Account Analyst

Kate is responsible for delivering core services and financial analysis for all of her clients. She is involved in all areas of the client relationship with ScaleFactor, from on-boarding to managing their books & delivering monthly financial statements. Outside of the daily grind, Kate can be found stalking other people’s dogs at Zilker Park, finding new trails to hike or exploring the Austin music scene with her wonderful husband.

Senior Marketing Associate

Amy manages ScaleFactor’s digital presence, from running this website to designing new ads, and everything in between. She’s frequently tasked with adjusting the company logo to accent all ScaleFactor gear—hats, shirts, even onesies—just right. If she’s not working, she’s probably outside, teaching her young pup and two cats new tricks, or practicing yoga.

Senior Software Developer

Matthew is responsible for building intuitive software to help power small businesses. When not hacking away at something, he enjoys seeing scary movies with his wife and playing board games.

Account Analyst

Will’s responsibilities revolve around providing core services and consulting to clients across industries. He balances the daily grind, producing financials and managing customer relationships with organizing team building events that bring this ScaleFactor family closer together. Being new to Austin, he loves to explore – you can find him taking advantage of everything the city has to offer, like jogging the Greenbelt, searching for the best taco, or enjoying some live music.

Senior Software Developer

Peter spends his time writing code and managing the cloud resources that make up the ScaleFactor platform. When he can drag himself away from his computer screen, you’ll find him out hiking with his wife and dogs or over at the pool hall.

Senior Growth Associate

Shayne is responsible for delivering ScaleFactor solutions to the masses. He attributes his success to one of his mantras “Seek first to understand, then to be understood.” When Shayne isn’t setting company records or making fun of Mike, he enjoys taking his boat out, skiing in the Rockies, and crossing the next trip off of his bucket list (all with his lovely wife, Megan).

UI / UX Designer

Kelly brings the dev team’s code to life by designing all front-end aspects of the ScaleFactor platform. She designs for the user, translating complex financial data into digestible bites of information. Outside of the office, you can find her spending time with friends and enjoying all of the awesome things Austin has to offer. She also has two very adorable cats.

Executive Assistant to the CEO

Morgan is responsible for keeping the ScaleFactor ship afloat and on course for greatness by being Kurt’s second brain. She is an Arizona native with a love for sunshine and the outdoors. When she’s not busy at ScaleFactor she can be found diving into politics, walking her cat, or drinking craft beer with her boyfriend.

Account Analyst

Dominique’s responsibilities involve providing recurring core solutions and consulting to her customers across a variety of industries. She focuses heavily on providing financial solutions and insights to her clients so they can focus on their success. When she’s not in your accounting file, Dominique enjoys playing with her fur baby Sophia, eating at one of Austin’s finest taco trucks, and rooting for her home team, the Nebraska Cornhuskers.

Growth Associate

Brett is responsible for educating the public on ScaleFactor solutions. He focuses on providing the best solutions possible for our customers by understanding their unique needs. When he’s not on the phone or listening to Shayne make fun of Mike, you can catch Brett and his girlfriend playing with their dog at Zilker Park, exploring the craft beer scene around Austin or trying to find pizza that compares to the Chicago Deep Dish he left behind to join us.

Account Analyst

Emmanuel is originally from Tulsa and a recent graduate of Trinity University in San Antonio. The city of Austin has been an exciting change for him. He enjoys kayaking on the river, traveling with his girlfriend and puppy, exploring the city’s outdoor gems, and eating at Yelp’s 50 top food trucks.

Junior Software Developer

Daniel spends his time writing solution-driven code for ScaleFactor and trying to juggle too many hobbies outside of the office. If he’s not behind his desk working on one of many projects, you can probably find him outdoors enjoying the sunshine with friends and family.

Office Cat

Floyd is the neighbor cat and has no shame calling the team or our office home. He normally is seeking “that” sunny spot or ways to look even more relaxed and carefree. He is an expert at sneaking in or out of the office and goes on long journeys away for weeks at a time. It has been said during these times that he is just looking for better WIFI.
