Our Story
In 2013, ScaleFactor founder and CEO Kurt Rathmann was determined to find a solution for the accounting problems he was facing as a CFO. He was on a quest to automate the painful, time consuming accounting tasks he and his team were forced to complete manually. In 2014, Kurt started ScaleFactor at his living room table. The company grew from one to four employees before the year’s end.
Today, ScaleFactor’s intuitive software automates accounting, tax, and finance tasks to save business owners time and money. ScaleFactor’s team of finance, software development, marketing, and sales professionals share a common goal: to empower business owners to make the best strategic and financial decisions.

Executive Team

Kurt is a born and raised entrepreneur. He brings a diverse background measuring and growing businesses and functions as the Chief Everything Officer. He has a keen focus for growing revenue, refining operations, and developing people. He is a news junkie, technological optimist, and has inherited the travel bug with a passion for exploring the world with his awesome wife.

Francis leads ScaleFactor’s development team and brings over 30 years of experience building relevant products for the systems management, enterprise, and medical systems fields. Francis spent the last 13 years as the CTO and Co-Founder of Spiceworks where he helped transform the SMB IT industry. Before that, he held technical leadership positions at Motive, Tivoli, Tandem, and Sunquest Information Systems.

Rose Punkunus leads the financial operations for the company, utilizing her experience in finance and marketplace operations to help fuel ScaleFactor’s growth. Rose brings a mix of financial, operational, and product experiences from her tenure at organizations including Apple, Fundbox, and Uber.

Scott has been leading diverse teams to execute a wide range of successful projects for over 30 years. He received his undergraduate degree from the University of Missouri. After graduation, he was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the United States Marine Corps and ultimately achieved the rank of Lieutenant Colonel in the USMC Reserves. After active duty, he moved to Austin to obtain a Masters in Public Affairs from the University of Texas’ LBJ School and a J.D. from the University of Texas School of Law.

Josh has been thinking about technology from an early age when he decided he was going to be a “computer professional.” Leading ScaleFactor’s product development team and initiatives, he feels like he has hit that goal and then some. When he isn’t helping build world-class product organizations he can be found playing goalie for the Goats, a local Austin ice hockey team, or on the golf course with his incredible and far more talented wife.
